At the age of 18, Mike began working for Ullman Sails in Newport Beach for Dave Ullman and Bruce Cooper building one-design sails and keelboat racing sails. After leaving Ullman Sails Long Beach, in 2010, Mike returned to Ullman Sails in 2015, having acquired a lot of knowledge and experience working for other large sail companies in the industry. In 2017, Mike moved from Ullman Sails Newport to join the team at Ullman Sails Hawaii.
Mike grew up racing in Southern California on his father’s Santa Cruz 27 and Olson 30. Nearly every weekend he can be seen, on the water, racing in the Farr40, J/109, Schock35 and many other one-design fleets. He also frequents PHRF handicap fleets, racing on boats as small as Cal 20’s or a 21-foot Open 6.50-meter, and on up to large sleds and Maxi yachts. Although he enjoys a good weekend on the grand-prix course, Mike also has a deep passion for offshore racing and can be found racing with customers in many of the West Coast’s offshore regattas.
When on land, Mike works in the sales department and in sail service, ensuring that any repairs, re-cuts, or any service work is completed in a timely manner and to the highest quality standards. Mike has worked in the sailmaking industry developing a wide variety of skills. Mike always enjoys working with customers to achieve their sailing goals and truly shares his vast knowledge and experience with everyone he works with.
